At a national gospel concert in 1991, a sold out crowd awaits their favorite performance. The children’s gospel choir has rehearsed their hearts out and is waiting for their cue. Everyone seems ready. The music starts. Suddenly the young soloist looses her nerve and bows out. In a state of panic, his peers urge an untried youngster to sub in and take the microphone. Banky Wellington rises to the occasion, and at the tender age of 10, a star is born. Encore after encore, the entire crowd rises to a standing ovation. To this day, Banky Wellington has never looked back.
Blessed with an incomparably smooth voice, excellent writing and production skills, as well as uncanny showmanship and crowd pleasing dance ability, Banky is poised to take on the music industry.
American by birth, Nigerian by heritage and a New Yorker at heart, Banky has always recognized the blessing of his global background. A wide range of genres from urban R&B and hip-hop, to Afro beat and reggae, to the very best of traditional Nigerian, West African beats and rhythms influence his music. As a result he has won numerous talent shows across the country, the latest being "Albany Idol", a spin off of the Fox Network’s American Idol.
Hosted by 102.3 Kiss FM and the local FOX affiliate, Banky out performed almost one hundred other contestants to take home the title. Without the backing of a major label or distribution, his music is getting airplay on 91.3 WVKR and 96.3 Kiss FM in upstate NY as well as college radio.
His unique vocal style and live performance brought such comments as the following:

His independently recorded debut EP has spawned intense anticipation for his album locally, and internationally. Since its April 2003 release, it has sold over 1800 units from shows and an aggressive no holds barred grassroots campaign. This buzz has not gone unnoticed, as he has been featured in Fox23 News, The Poughkeepsie Journal, and various news media and radio. Blessed with a versatile voice, which lends itself to many genres, as well as the ability to write and produce, he has the charisma and good looks to deliver his gifts to a wide range of audiences.
